A FAMILY BARN
A FAMILY BARN
Since 1949, Kelsey Farm has been teaching young people to ride. Whether you ride with us every day or once a week, you will be part of the Kelsey Farm family.
At Kelsey Farm, we offer a safe space for kids to compete, learn, play, get dirty and find their best selves. Our farm is a world apart from the pressure and fast pace of present-day life. A haven of acceptance, mutual respect and dedication to the sport of horseback riding, we are home away from home to many of our students.
Here, we seek to cultivate more than riders; the goal is to bring out the best in students. Horsemanship is unusually suited to this. Though it requires strength and athleticism, it is ultimately a practice of patience, humility, and attention whose reach is far beyond the stables. Riding is about partnership with a powerful, sensitive, communicative animal. We understand this, and so our students not only learn to ride; they care for their horses, learn about anatomy, veterinary maintenance and feeding, and spend time on the ground with them. This grooming and handling of horses is mutually beneficial, and when our students subsequently win at the shows, they do so in partnership with their mounts.
Our farm features turnout in paddocks equipped with run-in sheds, both indoor and outdoor arenas, a cross-country course, eleven box stalls, and a heated tack room with viewing area. We have direct access to the Greenwich riding trails.
Since 1989, Kelsey Farm has proudly donated the use of ponies and facilities to the Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Program on a weekly basis. We recognize the profound benefits that can come from pairing differently-abled persons with horses and ponies. The gentle, safe nature of our animals make them ideal for the Pegasus program.
United States Pony Club
Pony Club makes riding and horsemanship a team sport, and we love that. We maintain a strong and active presence in the Greenwich Pony Club, our local branch of the national organization. Teams compete regionally at show jumping rallies, know-down competitions (horsemanship knowledge), and combined training trials. We hold prep sessions and clinics for members and encourage parents to get involved as well.
